A transformation from the 90’s to now, COOPER Design Build’s whole home remodel in Northwest Portland replaced the dated, dark feel of this house with a fresh, bright 21st century vibe!
Although a largely cosmetic remodel, we began by rethinking the entire function and efficiency of the kitchen to best complement the young family’s needs. Switching to full-height cabinets featuring a new pull-out pantry wall added tremendous storage while modernizing the layout. The irregularly shaped island was updated to a rectangular style and the cooktop was moved to a perimeter wall making the new, larger island far more versatile. The addition of an induction cooktop and relocating the oven and microwave to the island made the experience of enjoying the kitchen safer and easier for the whole family. A neutral-toned palette paired with durable materials ensures the custom white shaker cabinets, stone countertops, and ceramic tile backsplash are high-performance as well as timeless.
The adjacent family room received a full facelift by removing the outdated fireplace and surrounding cabinetry and replacing it with a new, efficient gas fireplace surrounded by white wood shiplap, cabinetry matching the nearby kitchen, and adding appealing open wood shelving. The prominent staircase in the two-story formal entryway was updated with modern metal newel posts and a pleasing, ergonomic wood banister, instantly refreshing this dramatic element of the home. Replacing the outdated carpet in the adjacent living and dining rooms and seamlessly lacing in matching red oak with a warm, slightly washed stain provided continuity and cohesion throughout the main level creating an inviting, comfortable, and harmonious home!
