This much-loved 1929 Grant Park Tudor whole home remodel is the result of our homeowners’ desire to transform their cramped two-bedroom home, including an unfinished basement, cramped kitchen, and outdated baths, into a beautifully detailed four bedroom family home. A great example of COOPER Design Build’s competency and commitment to “master planning” and forging trusting relationships, this home went through a four-phase remodel over the past decade. The final home truly evolved into the perfect space for the entire family.
Phase 1: Dormer Additions
The priority for the first phase of this Tudor whole home remodel was to add two dormers at the back of the house to create space for an additional child’s bedroom in one and a large walk-in closet for the primary bedroom in the other.
Phase 2: Basement Sanctuary
The second-phase remodel addressed the unfinished basement and added some practical and livable square footage. The design included an ample utility room, a full bathroom highlighted with Boston Penny Tile, a guest bedroom for extended family to stay comfortably, and a spacious, new family room to relax and play in.
Phase 3: Kitchen Renovation
Phase three of the master plan focused in on the inefficient, cramped kitchen. Initially located in the front of the house, it was relocated to the location of the original family room found at the back of the house. The newly expanded kitchen features classic white Shaker cabinets, energy efficient appliances and lighting, and a generous, central mahogany-stained island to create a warm and inviting environment for the family to enjoy together. Relocating the kitchen also gave us the opportunity to design a new butler’s pantry and open up a wall into the formal dining room that was previously inaccessible from the kitchen. This created a circular flow pattern, improving the livability of the entire main floor.
Phase 4: Bathroom Retreat
To complete the multi-phase whole house project, we refurbished the main-floor bathroom and the leaking upper-floor bath. The main bathroom features new penny tile and we creatively re-used the vintage built-in medicine cabinet and the laundry chute. The upper bathroom expanded to accommodate a large shower featuring gray herringbone marble tile inlay with glass surround and a beautiful white vanity.
The final results of COOPER Design Builds long-standing relationship with this house and its gracious owners over the past the decade is a fully refurbished home with original architectural details that foster family and friends coming together.
