After an ice storm left major water damage in their basement, our long-term clients knew just who to call for this Lake Oswego Basement Remodel. Previously, the COOPER team remodeled the top two levels of the home, including a beautiful outdoor living area spanning the length of the home, complete with an infinity pool.
The Vision: A Gathering Space
Our clients wanted a basement space that felt like any other room in their home. Open, inviting, and full of light – a feature made particularly difficult to achieve given the room’s underground location. Big on family and with two young-adult children, our clients wanted a space that was renovated to reflect their changing lifestyle. A space to play board games, watch TV, and an extra bedroom were all on their wish list for this basement remodel.
The Process: Creative Solutions
After treating the water damage sustained in the storm, the team got to work. To utilize the space that we had, the team demoed a portion of the wall under the stairwell to create custom built-ins. To ensure this remodel’s longevity exterior walls were water-proofed. Rather than completely renovating the existing basement bathroom, we instead revitalized it! Adding a new shower door brought a fresh aspect to the bathroom and upgraded it without changing the footprint of the space.
Our designers crafted a creative solution to the challenge of bringing light into a basement room. We installed a faux “daylight window”. This “window” is actually an LED panel that can be dimmed and changed to mimic the look of natural light streaming through! The result is a beautiful and functional piece that brightens up the room, even on the rainiest of days!
The Finishing Touches: A Basement for the Whole Family
Once the space had come together it was time for some amazing finishing touches. A larger-than-life custom Scrabble board sets the stage for the family game room. A cozy couch creates separation for the TV room, and a beverage fridge tucked under the stairwell completes the area. Using the stairs as a natural partition, the other side of the basement was transformed into a private guest suite.
The finished result of this Lake Oswego basement remodel is a second living space that truly revolves around the family. The basement was remodeled into a space for gatherings, games, and guests!
