A wonderful family needed just a little extra space to spread out and live more comfortably in their Alameda home. By adding a dormer off the back of the home, COOPER Design Build was able to not only add an extra bedroom but also increase the footprint of their sunny, colorful new kitchen and increase the size of their covered deck space in the backyard, too!
The beautiful archway that connected the old kitchen to the dining room was painfully narrow as was the entire length of the cramped galley kitchen. We adjusted the interior wall of the kitchen into an adjacent bedroom widening the entire galley kitchen (including expanding the entryway) by over a foot. The gain in width of the kitchen feels dramatic and shows how even a seemingly small addition of space can dramatically increase the performance of a kitchen.
The dormer bedroom addition above the kitchen allowed for the existing bedroom on the main floor to be decreased in size to create a lovely home office. The new bedroom is bright, spacious (with a generous closet), and is seamlessly integrated into the upper level of the home.
