Our Lake Oswego clients had a clear vision for their new primary bathroom. Newly empty nesters, they were ready to reinvest in their “forever home”. The directive was crystal clear: transform a cramped, outdated bathroom into a serene, modern retreat infused with warmth, sophistication, and a touch of drama.
The Vision: A European Getaway
After years of living with a dark and confined bathroom, our Lake Oswego homeowners were ready for a fresh start. They dreamed of a space that felt like a European spa. With an emphasis on bold design, yet effortlessly elegant and full of European style, they wanted a larger, brighter bathroom that prioritized comfort and functionality.
An adjacent, underutilized guest room offered the perfect opportunity to expand the primary bathroom. By annexing this room into the footprint of the primary suite, we reimagined the layout to nearly double the bathroom’s size without needing major structural changes. It allowed the creation of not only a more open and luxurious bathroom, but also a spacious walk-in closet, turning the entire suite into a peaceful, high-functioning retreat.
The Process: Craftsmanship & Creative Solutions
From the outset, this project demanded precision and a thoughtful approach to its layout, materials, and finishes. A terrazzo accent wall, inspired by European design, became the visual anchor of the space and we meticulously mitered it around a concealed plumbing access panel behind the freestanding tub. This gave our clients the striking accent wall they were looking for without sacrificing utility.
We sourced a custom-built walnut vanity from out of state that added richness and texture to the space. Its mid-century modern influence is evident in the grain-matched drawer fronts and sculptural legs, offering both warmth and elegance. Our designers selected chrome finishes to echo the home’s existing hardware, maintaining continuity and preserving the character.
Design decisions were done strategically. When terrazzo flooring was ruled out due to slip concerns, the design team proposed using terrazzo as a feature wall and countertop instead, bringing in visual interest without compromising safety.
The Final Space: Bold, Balanced, and Beautiful
The end result is a stunning transformation that redefines what a primary bathroom can be. The new space is more than double the size of the original. It’s bright, spacious, and designed with intention in every corner. The terrazzo feature wall creates a focal point that feels bold yet timeless, while the custom walnut vanity helps ground the space with texture and warmth.
Every material was chosen with care while balancing durability with design aesthetic. Ultimately, this remodel gave our clients exactly what they envisioned: a sophisticated, spa-like retreat that celebrates design, function, and the comfort of home. It’s a space where every detail tells a story and every moment feels like a getaway.
