If you live in one of the neighborhoods in Portland’s West Hills area or are planning to buy a home there, you know why you chose this unique and exclusive area. The leafy hillsides just minutes from downtown Portland are graced with historic homes in a rich array of architectural styles.
Many of those historic properties have undergone renovations and additions over the years, and if such a remodel is your intent, you will need an architect and builder familiar with the older homes in the West Hills and other historic Portland neighborhoods. Choose your architect and builder carefully, because that relationship will mean all the difference in the success of your remodel or addition.
Getting to Know You and Your Home
At COOPER Design Builders, we are committed to building a relationship with you that is based on trust. When you choose COOPER, you are accessing the experience, creativity, and reliability of a company that has been seamlessly melding architectural design and fine homebuilding craftsmanship in the Portland area for more than 25 years.
From our initial consultation with you, we will listen as you describe your needs and your dreams for your home. Our design professionals will walk through your home and talk about how we could help you achieve your dreams. At that point, we will discuss the feasibility of your ideas, how much such a remodel could cost, and the timing of the work. By the end of the consultation, you will have a good idea of how our design-build process works.
Starting the Design
As we move forward, we will start the design process by measuring your house so we can draw plans of how it looks today. Based on our conversations with you, our design team will create a first-round design. Then we will meet with you to hear your feedback, revise the design, and continue to gather your input and revise the plans until you are happy. Our promise to you is that through this collaborative process, you will end up with a design that you love and that we can build.
We keep you in the loop throughout our design-build process. We will help you decide where it’s worth it to splurge and where you can economize. We’ll work with you to choose the materials, fixtures, and finishes for your remodel and refine the budget based on your choices. After these decisions are made, we will create detailed interior drawings so you can envision the finished project. We also will draw up engineered construction plans and acquire the necessary building permits so we can get started.
As part of the COOPER process, we incorporate specific steps to minimize the disruption in your home. We’ll explain how we control the dust, clean up after each day’s work, ensure the security of your home, and implement other job-management practices. An experienced site supervisor will manage the day-to-day work at your home, and a production manager, along with our designers, will oversee the supervisor’s work to ensure the attention to detail and quality craftsmanship that your project deserves.
Throughout the process, our team will meet with you regularly to update you on the job’s progress and answer your questions. We also will connect with you via our online project-management software, through which you can communicate with our team and view the construction schedule, specifications, plans, and drawings.
It’s Not Over
When the remodel of your historic West Hills home is finished, we will take steps to be sure that you are completely satisfied with the result. We provide a one-year warranty on all our work and will schedule warranty appointments for 30 days, six months, and a year after completion to make sure you’re still happy.
At every step, from the first consultation through the warranty period, COOPER Design Builders’ pledge is to go above and beyond the conventional contractor’s work. We honor our commitments, stand behind our work, and always make it right.
