Hillside Mediterranean – Whole House Remodel & Lower Level Addition
COOPER Design Builders worked with the homeowners through two distinct phases transforming a cramped rustic Mediterranean-style house into an intelligent, comfortable home for the family of five.
The first phase focused on converting the existing crawlspace into a sunny lower level. Space limitations, instead of being a liability, were actually a creative springboard. Every inch of this 607 ft² addition was planned to maximize function and storage: a craft room, play room, custom Murphy bed, kitchenette, laundry, and full bathroom were realized in such a small footprint!
We were entrusted with a second remodel that prioritized reconfiguring the middle level of their home containing the bedrooms and baths plus remodeling the cramped, outdated kitchen on the main level. We created a new floor plan with minor bump-out additions mirrored on both levels allowing us to both expand the kitchen above and create a sorely needed third bedroom below.
The professional-grade kitchen is a marvel containing custom, functional alder cabinetry at every turn – so much cabinetry in fact, that we were able to remove a walk-in pantry and still gain storage! That allowed the kitchen to open graciously to the living room while replacing a peninsula eat-in bar with a new, large separate island created a comfortable circular flow for guests, kids, and the serious home cooks!
