Grant Park Tudor – Whole House Remodel

This much-loved 1929 Northeast Portland Tudor home is the result of our homeowners’ desire to transform their cramped two-bedroom home including an unfinished basement and outdated kitchen and baths into a beautifully detailed four bedroom family home. A great example of COOPER Design Builders’ competency and commitment to “master planning”, this home went through a four-phase remodel over the past decade and has truly evolved into the perfect home for the family.

The priority for the first phase of their whole house remodel was to add two dormers at the back of the house to would create space for an additional child’s bedroom in one of the dormers and a large walk-in closet for the master bedroom in the other. The second-phase remodel addressed the unfinished basement and add much-needed practical and liveable square footage. The design includes an ample utility room, a full bathroom highlighted with Boston Penny Tile, a guest bedroom for extended family to stay in comfortably, and a spacious family room for the family to relax and play in.

Phase three of the master plan focused in on the inefficient, cramped kitchen. Originally located in the front of the house, it was completely relocated to the family room (now replaced by the wonderful basement flex-space) formally found at the back of the house. The newly expanded kitchen features classic white Shaker cabinets, energy efficient appliances & lighting, and a generous, centralized mahogany-stained island to create a warm and inviting environment for the family to enjoy together. Relocating the kitchen also gave us the opportunity to design a new butler’s pantry and open up a wall into the formal dining room that was previously inaccessible from the kitchen. This created a circular flow pattern which improves the livability of the entire main floor.

To complete the multi-phase whole house project, we refurbished the main floor bathroom and the leaking upper floor bath. The main bathroom features new penny tile and a sensitive re-use of the vintage built-in medicine cabinet and the laundry chute. The upper bathroom was tastefully expanded to accommodate a large shower featuring gray herringbone marble tile inlay with glass surround and a beautiful white vanity.

The final results of COOPER Design Builders long-standing relationship with this house and its gracious homeowners over the past the decade is a fully refurbished home with original architectural details that foster family and friends coming together.
